Olympic Expos for London 2012
Michael Phelps et les super nageurs

After the Olympic Games, that’s when I had time to visit art exhibits and museums. So here are the ones I visited and what I think about it. All of them cost between 8 and 12 pounds. Feel free to comment if you’ve seen one of them or suggest another one. Of course, as my blog is titled, I couldn’t miss the James Bond exhibit, definitely the highlight. But I am also interested in photography, painting and modern art, so here it goes; these exhibits have nothing in common. Make your own choice.

  • Designing 007: Fifty years of Bond Style

James Bond

This exhibit which will be touring the World is definitely not to be missed by Bond fans! It’s a great one and quite complete. From the gadgets to the beautiful costumes for the movies, history about Ian Fleming, with screens showing fragments of different Bond movies. You can even see one of the golden pistol used for the movie “The man with the golden gun” and the bikini worn by Ursula Andress in one of the most mythic film scenes in history. There is also a special room focusing on the villains and a great room about winter sports in Bond movies, with a reconstitution of the Ice Palace and some beautiful ski outfits Bond and Bond girls were wearing. My favourite room is the Casino with the amazing dresses James Bond Girls were wearing for the scenes as well as high-class tuxedos. Really beautiful and fascinating just like a Bond movie. “My name is Bond – James Bond.” After the exhibit, you can enjoy Bond’s favourite drink at the bar, special martini with the olive made for the occasion. There is also a shop of course with special Bond objects like martini glasses, etc.

  • Another London

International Photographers capture City Life 1930-1980

Another London Exhibit

Beautiful black and white photos, including some by our French most famous photographers like Henri Cartier Bresson or Willy Ronis (only one by him), those guys that photographed Paris so well, did a really good job in London too. With beautiful cities comes great inspiration!

Where: Tate Britain

When: until 16 September 2012

  • From Paris: A taste of Impressionism

Royal Academy of Arts

70 paintings from 19th century French Impressionists such as Monet, Manet, Degas, Pissaro and others. And the highlights are the 21 Renoirs, absolutely stunning. They all come from the Clark Institute of Massachusetts; so no, you’ve never seen them at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris!

Where: Royal Academy of Arts

When: until 23 September 2012

Tate Modern

  • Damien Hirst

The Tate leaflet says that “this unmissable exhibition is the first substantial Damien Hirst exhibition in the UK ever”. I have to admit that this guy, apparently the richest artist in the World nowadays, is quite interesting. He has a bunch of different things, sorry pieces of art, like disgusting animals open in 2 halves, probably very interesting if you want to become a vet. How about a huge ashtray, made from real cigarettes buts and ashes which smell terrible when you pass by? Pharmacy cabinets, OK why not? But what I like most is its obvious fascination for butterflies, which are beautiful creatures; there is even a steamy room with live butterflies: by far my favourite part. And beautiful collages with butterflies wings. Whether you like it or not, it’s definitely an exhibit you won’t forget.

Where: Tate Modern

When: until 9 September

  • Edvard Munch: The Modern Eye

Well, I have to admit that even though Edvard Munch is a very interesting artist, and I really enjoyed the exhibit about him at the Pinacothèque in Paris 2 years ago, I didn’t find much interest in that exhibit which I walked through in less than 30 minutes.

Where: Tate Modern

When: until 14 October 2012

  • The Damien Hirst and Imprenisim would have definitely interested me. Good thing, there are loads of good impressionist paintings at the National Gallery!

  • I love James Bond! I don’t know if the exhibit made to the US, but I would do anything to see it. My husband would go wild looking at classic Aston Martins. For me I would live to sip a shaken not stird.
